I was wondering if someone knows how to do it. Not necessarily sneaking in but maybe meeting with the artist and chill with them for a bit. Do they mind, I would love to meet some knowledgeable musicians and talk with them about music a little bit maybe jam with them...There's a gig in Toronto at Massey Hall this Friday - Wayne Shorter Quartet. I would love to talk to John and Wayne. How can I approach them ?
Any suggestions are welcome.

Any suggestions are welcome. | Not to be rude, but what makes you think these people would be a bit interested in you?

Any suggestions are welcome. | I'd just give a "quick hi, I like your music" then leave them alone. They won't want to jam or talk music or chill with you, especially back stage. It's their time to relax, with themselves and friends and not play host.

If they want proof of it, you have to use your imagination and set it all up, but most probably they will either just say yes, or no.

Short of growing a nice pair and a booty to match, there's not much that can impress the guards on the door.
I know I wasn't .
Seriously though, as said before, backstages serve a spesific purpose. Performing in front of an audience isn't always easy and most people need the solitude to prepare themselves. And I don't mean the way people often imagine either. After the show the adrenaline rush must be dealt with, NOT the best time to chat.
Take the advice D.Don gave, maybe even do the interview for real, and get it published in Your school paper.
Just my 0.02€

| | | | You have to remember that we are all people. Famous musicians are no different than you or me, except their job happens to be in the public eye. Some people will sit and talk and some won't. You really just have to approach them as normal people and feel them out. Also, remember that if you really don't have anything in common or of substance to talk about, your conversation is going to go nowhere. Just don't be the annoying type that doesn't know when to back off. There is at least one of those guys at every show. |
