Question Sniping software recommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
99% of the time I'm able to be at home when an eBay auction I'm interested in is ending, but next week I'll be at work when 3 auctions I'm following end. I've heard about sniping software (and even some kind of sniping service you pay a fee to?), but I've never used anything like that.

I've Googled and see that there's a variety of stuff out there, but would like to hear from anyone who has first hand experience with one or more of these programs and any advice they have to offer. Thanks.

IIRC, there was a Firefox extension that I used called 'Bid Butler'. Only used it once, but it worked. *shrug*

I use the free Ebay app for my Droid phone. If that's an option for you of course. It's fast and it works and I have the ability to change my mind about my highest bid in real time.

How about just bid the highest price you're willing to pay for the item?
I know it sounds crazy.

When there's still 10 hours left in the auction? No thanks. That's the most foolish thing you could do.

I'm sure your intentions were good, but that's one of the most useless responses I've ever seen.

WHAT????!!!???

10 seconds or 10 hours, at the end the HIGH bidder gets the item...

you go ahead and believe that tossing a snipe bid in at the last 3 seconds to go is going to win every time.....

item x I want. with 6 days and 23 hours to go I put my MAX bid in, if your snipe bid is higher I lose, if someone else outbids be with 6 days to go I lose...simple isn't it?

of course there are those who "feel" better about seeing in the last 3 seconds they are going to win, more power to them, but you aint gonna win when my highest bid is 100.00 more than your max-snipe bid I put in a week ago --sorry.

I said in my first post that I'd already Googled and had seen the variety of choices out there. I was looking for an actual recommendation for a program, not how to get one in the first place. His response was akin to telling someone who wants to get a bass to "just go to a store and buy one." Useless.

I also use eSnipe. No problems in many years of use.

I see and know what you mean...just put in you max bid.

BUT...I feel that many times the poster of the auction has another user ID or a friend that "runs up" your bid to get the max of your bid and you loose the auction by a minimal amount.
SOMETIMES.... a sniping program works. You are still placing your max bid, but less chance of someone running up your bids until you loose the auction.

My personal opinon about ebay. we ought to start an ebay ID thread. I haven't bought or sold for a while, but mine is rock-basses.
Sorry Thunder for the misunderstandings....all friends here on TB!

Wake up in a bad mood today? I know how eBay works, I've been using it for over 10 years. I've lost plenty of auctions when my snipe bid wasn't the highest bid, and I've shrugged my shoulders and moved on. I've also won plenty more at the end with my snipe bids. Had I placed that same bid earlier other bidders may have "changed their minds" about what their highest bid was and bid higher. I've seen that a million times.

Here's another scenario: I want item Y. Seller has set $100 as the minimum bid. With 6 days... 5 days... 4 days... 3 days, there's no activity, so I go ahead and post my max bid of $500, but since I'm the only bidder so far it shows my current bid as $100. Seller gets nervous/upset that no one but me is bidding on his item so he has his friend throw some bids at it too. His friend bids $125, and he's immediately outbid by me at $126. This continues until his friend has bid $400 and gets outbid by me at $405. No further bids get placed, so I get it for $405. That's $95 less than my max bid, so should I be happy, or should I have waited until the last second, bid $500, and gotten the item for $100???

If you're looking at an item that's going to generate a lot of bidding then I guess you're not really losing out by posting your max bid early on, but other than that I can't think of a single advantage to showing your hand that early on. Thanks, but I'll stick with sniping.

Thanks to everyone for the other replies. No hard feelings towards anyone. I'll take a look at the programs/services and try to make an informed choice.
