So, Can someone hear what this guy is doing?

Hey, I made a thread earlier on this song, Critical Mass by Jeff Jarvis. Now I found a recording of it online, and the guy that is playing bass for it is playing the same beat through the whole song! and i cant figure out what he's doing!

I wanted to make my own groove thing to it, but I've tried for over 6 hours this weekend and I didn't make any progress, so what is this guy doing? could you guys listen to it and try and figure out what he is doing? i can hear the rythem, but the notes aren't coming...

He's playing a funk line with a little pop and maybe some slap. But you need a better recording played through an EQ in order to really fine tune the bass part and make it stand out in order to break it down.

Following the chords and some octaves pop and slap; its just buried in the mix. I think Maynard Ferguson has a tune that sounds a lot like this, I just can't remember which album.
