So I bought some wood today

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a 3 metre by 18cm piece of sapele(didnt have any smaller pieces), and i got it cut down so it fitted into the car and i had 2 small pieces which im actually going to use.

the guy at the timber yard was very nice, he told me about all sorts of differant woods and also gave me a big piece of maple floorboard as a free sample(i have no idea why, since i never actually mentioned to him that i wanted it )

I was thinking of making a neck out of it, but i dont think its wide enough because there is a groove on one side and a tongue on the other side, if i wanted to make a neck out of it could i slice it in half, and turn them around and glue together,

this way i can use the groove which will now be in the middle for the truss rod.

How thick/long does a neck blank have to be?

this would probably be better-recieved (and better advice given) in the luthier's corner forum.

btw, I got crotch walnut wood at my lumberyard, if you're going to take this thread in that direction.
