And it felt awesome!

Just a little background information: I was planning to pick up the bass now that the bonus check is in, and one of the guys in office heard about my plans. He roped me into the company 'band' that was supposed to play at the annual dinner and today was our first jam session.

We're planning to play:

I Will Survive (by CAKE)
Can't Take My Eyes Off You (by Vikki Carr)
La Bamba (by Ritchie Valens)
That Thing You Do (by The Wonders)

Simple songs, I know. But jamming with other people and sounding (kinda) in tune makes all these callouses (special thanks to I Will Survive!) worth it!

Glad you enjoyed yourself.

Jamming, yes, nothing like it. We vacation most every year in Mountain View, Ark. People meet on the town square and jamm acoustic music all times of the day and night.

Notice the capo on the 6 string. Fiddles like A she is one of the G people.

You will find circles of musicians off of the tour, back home and enjoying themselves. Some great music coming from that circle and then right next to them will be people like you and I where they capo everything into G and do their I IV V. Everyone having fun.

Being acoustic you see a lot of double bass used at Mountain View. I use my rhythm guitar here.

Jamming is one of those fun things that everyone should try. Once welcomed into the circle I've never heard a criticism from anyone. If you do not want the lead or the honor of calling the next song just lean back and it passes to the next person. Always relaxed and lay back.

My first jam was a Blitzkrieg Bop cover. Most amazing day of my life.

Congrats and fair warning - playing with other people and playing in front of other people is highly addictive.

That brings back a great memory. Mine was BB King's Rock Me Baby during a showcase/recital event where my guitarist friend let me play on one of his 7 songs. I was replacing a working pro bassist and working with a pro drummer and my buddy's teacher, also a pro, so I practiced very hard so I wouldn't embarrass myself or screw up his song - by the time the show came I could walk that bassline in my sleep.
