So I'm going to buy my guitar friend a guitar...

Him and I like a lot of the same tonalities, and he's kinda going through a rough patch and he really needs a new guitar (especially if him and I start playing more gigs together, his guitar right now isn't dependable). So I look at it as an investment for me too.

We've been good friends for 5+ years, and even if we had a falling out, I don't think I'd regret spending money on my friend.

But alas, I don't know what to get. He really likes Fender tone and feel, but he also really loves playing his Epiphone Les Paul. He also says that he prefers Fender necks over Gibson necks.

We play music that requires both a good clean tone and a nice crunch tone.

This lead me to concur that he would really like a Jaguar HH (the fixed bridge ones, he's not much of a whammy guy). Does anybody have any input or stories on these guitars? Good and bad, how well do they "bridge the Fender to Gibson" gap?

Easier and better for him if you just say" Look, I want to do this for you, I have $--- to spend. Lets go to <wherever> and get you a guitar." Put him in the loop.

If he views it as uncomfortable charity, come to an accommodation--sure, pay me back after we do a few gigs-----whatever.

Nice of you---I'll say that.
