So what should I pay for a strap?

Hiya, all.

I've been on the basic £5 2" seatbelt strap for ages now, and it's starting to do my shoulder in on those long rehersals! I want to get a nicer strap, but how much should I be looking to pay? I've seen silly prices for large leather straps, but are they worth it?

I don't mind spending an extra bit of money for a really nice strap that will help take the weight off my shoulder, but how far should I go? Are the top end straps actually much better than the mid ends ones? Thanks!

I payed around $18 USD for a nice leather/padded Fender strap not too long ago. It's very comfortable and looks nice.

You can get the neotech's on ebay from the US ( I think they're the same as some of the fender). I got one, for xmas and they're really nice, so ordered a second so I've got one with straplocks on, and one without.

With shipping and all they were less than £20 each - I thought that was pretty reasonable: a nice step up from the cheapo straps, without getting into silly money.

I saw Neotech's on a site for about £24 with shipping, and I was considering buying one -- looks like what I would want.

But I mean, I see all these crazy 4" leather straps for like $100 and I wonder if they'd be worth it

I'm in central Lonon today anyway, so can see if they have anything there (doubt it :P), but I'll probably try a Neotech.

Thanks for the feedback

The crazy expensive straps, moody I am guessing. In short, yes, they are worth it.

i got some kind of extra wide padded fender strap made out of neoprene or something, its weird. it stretches a bit and feels rubbery. whatever you get, definitely spend the extra money. $20-40 isn't too bad for something that makes playing so much more comfortable. Can't speak on the high dollar ones, but I guess if you have the bread, go for it !

iv never in my 4-5ish years of playing had to use anything more expensive then a $7 strap and wider then 2" lol at one point i had a 4" leather strap and it was annoying as heck... at another point i had one with a swade underside, it was so uncomfortable lol kept bunching up my shirt and rubbing against the hair on my shoulder and being all irritating... i did how ever find this one strap that GC that was 2" wide and made of nice cushy leather for $50 and was close to buying it but couldnt rationalize it when i didnt have any problems with my other straps

I prefer leather straps.

Unless there's something REALLY special- you should be able to get a really sweet strap for $35 or so.

with a $25 freebie from Musiciansfriend, I ordered a Kepurthane strap. Works as advertised and is great for people with sensitive skin that's prone to irritation.

Last strap I bought was about a 4" wide suede strap at guitar Center - cost me $18. It was a house brand strap, and it works great. Very comfy. I've also bought a few on Ebay - there are some darn good strap makers selling their stuff there.
