So who's job rocks and they get to play/practice on the job?

Unlike some of the pro's on here most of us have a day job. I work a swing shift in a refinery (making H2). With 12 hour shifts and not much going on I get to play for hours at night and on weekends during the day. The boss doesn't care as long as the plant stays running.

I have a little practice amp in my locker that get's a lot of use. It's funny sometimes I grin when I look up and see my bass sitting in it's stand...I'm blessed with a great job! I have the internet for music or just use a cd player. So this week I'm covering for someone's vacation and worked 7 nights 12 hour shifts. I have played for hours and hours ...so let's hear it anyone else lucky enough to have a job where you can get some playing time in?

I wouldn't say that my job rocks... but I can practice through headphones (Tascam bt-1) with one ear in between taking 911 calls and dispatching Fire/Ems/Police...

I can practice at work.

However, my old job, when I was working for an animation company was better. After 9PM a bunch of us would jam. I kept my rig at work, we had a full miked kit. DJ turntables. A mixing board. And recording equipment. We also had some chicks in the office that were belly dancers. Ah... The good days.

Practice at lunch everyday(except Tuesdays....band gig Tuesday night 96 miles away). Employer's PC & WinMediaPlayer loaded with "learn tunes"->Line 6 BassPOD XT Live->headphones. Co-workers have gotten used to it. They've added smartcards to the security system so now I'm real close to leaving a Behringer POD and Epi T-Bird at work to save me those rainy day runs....

Holy smokes, the other operator has a guitar and amp in his locker and we play sometimes at shift change but no belly dancers.

If I'm at the office after hours, I can jam if I wanted to, but I don't. I want to go home.

If I'm working from home, yes, I take little bass breaks here and there.

If I'm at the shop, then hell yeah, I practice at work. Sometimes I get free lessons too.

Same here. I have my bass, CD-BT1mkII, Boss Micro BR and AKG K55 headphones crammed into my gigbag for lunchtime practice. I have a door on my cubicle so I can shut that and practice away. I don't practice on Wednesdays since that's band practice day.

I know for me I'll think, I have to go to work and then my next thought is oh wait a minute I get to play. Sure helps take the edge off putting your time in.

Well, I am employed for a County that has a huge charity drive which covers about 2 months in which many of the departments have there own charity drive events. I play in what is the unofficial county band. We do 3 or 4 charity events and while they are only 2-3 hours long, I have a job # I get to bill to. Too bad we don't do 1 a month year-round. So basically I get my salary covered to do the charity benefits. Good jammin' for a good cause.

I play for 45 minutes before school with my Jazz band... I play for an hour with my Pep band during football and basketball season, then I sometimes get some practice time between classes, or with my classes at the middle school. I have 3 basses starting out in my Beginning band this year... And this year, I actually know a little bit about the bass!...
