Solo touring considerations

Sign in to disble this ad
A guitarist/songwriter friend of mine is considering doing a series of short tours this summer, playing mostly coffeeshop/bookstore gigs while seeing the country. His plan is to take a leave of absence from work and live on savings, taking a couple weeks per jaunt with a week of home time between each leg. The only downside is that he doesn't exactly have a friend in every city whose couch he can crash on after each show.

Has anyone ever done anything like this before or know someone who has? What would be some suggestions for a jaunt like this?

Several of the establishments around here that book those sort of acts are all run by REALLY great people, and are more often than not willing to take that person into thier home for a night, if need be. I remember last summer one of the bands I was playing with did a gig with another band that was touring from Pennsylvania. After the show, they packed up and headed to the beach to camp-out for a few days till thier next gig.
