For Soloing?

Hey people i do like to do a good slap solo everynow and then, and a melodic one quite often, could you reccomand any good mode/sclaes to go around doing a nice melodic solo with? maybe a Jaco type solo or something, i use the Mixolydian a lot but im trying to see if there are any better ones?

if all else fails, a dorian or blues scale will usually fit the bill for funk, unless you're doing sumpin wack in some kinda diminished chord.

What I usually do:

1) Sing some random tune in my head
2) Quickly translate that to how it would be played on my bass.

But that's just me.
