Dear all,

I just want to share some of info & materials that I posted in my little webpage at JKChang.com with you. Posts in Bebop Cookbook section contains some casual articles on Formulaic Improvisation, some Charlie Parker's favorite motives, and some improvisation elements in Bebop like inverted mordent & enclosures...etc.. There are also some reference materials. Study materials posted in Download section, containing about 10 projects on Bebop lines. Most projects offer those bebop lines in bass clef notation.

I sincerely hope that some of you will find them useful.

Peace,

JK

Not exactly lightweight reading, but very interesting.
Nice that you include BiaB files (makes me just that bit more motivated to get BiaB again).
It would be Truly Wonderful if you had them the transcriptions in bass clef - transposing makes my brain hurt - but it's great to have them posted at all.

One thing - downloads seem to require a login ID.

hi kesslari, download does require registration my web designer friend set that up two years back and I only know a bit of CSS and PHP..etc. so probably won't be able change that by myself. Sorry about it. Newer projects have bass clef notation such as Bebop blues etude. If there's some need in bass clef notation for other projects, let me know, I'll see what I can do about it.

Peace,

JK

One other suggstion (I am enjoying your site a lot) - on pages like Bebop Cookbook | Charlie Parker’s Nickname & Bebop Lick | JKChang , have larger versions of the transcriptions. Trying to read off those small jpgs is tough, at least for older guys like me with bad eyesight.
Thanks

Hi Kesslari,

That is a really good suggestion! Browser's zoom-in feature isn't very useful since it makes notation very blurry. So in newer posts such as this one, I tried to format examples to fit into the webpage layout so they were easier to ready. Examples from Bebop Cookbook are old ones from the thesis (so reformatting might not be possible at the moment...since manual reformatting notation examples is time-consuming), I will explore some techniques to see if it's possible to add hovering magnification function to some of jpeg (or at least a gallery-style pop up window).

Thanks again for the suggestion,

JK
