Someone elses tone on your bass

The band I play with practices in room upstairs in a music store. Last night during a band practice this guy walks in and starts listening. After we finished the song we took a break and started talking to him. Then it hit me that he was the bassist for the church I go to(small world). Anyway we start practicing again and nearing the time to go he comes back to close up. On the last two songs I let him play my bass and I just couldnt believe the sound he was getting .

I loved his tone. Has anyone ever had someone play your bass and just blow you away with the tone they get? Now im gonna spend all day trying to get that tone

Every single time I start thinking I want to change something in my signal chain I hear someone else play through my **** and fall in love again...

My Bass teacher Fred Thelonious Baker played my musicman SUB. I was going to sell it as I am not really getting on with the tone, then I heard him play it...there is definately a lot in the saying "it's all in the fingers". Needless to say I still have it and try to get as god a sound as him.
