something to hang my bass off my amp at shows

Sign in to disble this ad
I was hoping someone might know if somethng like this is out there. Im thinking like a normal wall guitar hanger but a long flat pole connected to it, that can slide under your amp head.
Your amp head will need to be heavier than your bass/guitar. I know about the John Pearse D Angle Guitar Hanger so no links to that please. It cant handle hanging off of 8*10 next to a 18cab, shakes off ty for any help.

Hi There,

Haven't come across anything like you described, but Mark Bass do a bass holder that wraps around the handles of your bass cabinet and then around the fret board of your bass. It's a great little gizmo and will fit in your gig bag so won't take up any space and is ultra light!

Touch base with NYC TB'er jondog, he has a very cool amp mounted bass holder ..... I'm pretty sure it's a home-made thing. Jon is a super nice guy, I'm sure he'll share his info with you ...

Found a pic from a previous NYC GTG

I bought several of the ones where plastic mounts attach directly to your rack screws (model WR1... The same as the one in the picture pointbass posted). In my opinion, the plastic SUCKS!!!! On one of mine, it cracked... Luckily I noticed the crack before my Conklin tumbled. On the other, it held, but I lost all confidence. Cheesus, the first one cracked after less than a month. I wasn't about to test it's strength as it aged! I used the good one as a template, and milled two new mounting blocks out of aluminum. I'm lucky to have a Bridgeport at my disposal Now they are sturdy as rocks, and still use the original steel hooks, which are decently padded, and fold inward so I can attach my rack lids.

I would NOT suggest them to anyone, unless you can replace that junky plastic with something more sturdy. Unless of course you don't mind seeing one of your instruments tumble, then have at it!

I've been seriously thinking about inventing what you describe

Basically, I'll be using a flat plank of wood as wide as my cabinet that will rest on top underneath the amp head, and two angle brackets (one on each side) connecting to one of these on either side:

[edit]: I will also probably put some Velcro underneath the plank so that it stays put on top of the carpeted cab better, being that my head is a lightweight Markbass LMII, and I would hate to send the head flying by grabbing a bass from a hanger too quickly if the hanger is gripping the bass' neck a little snugly...

I use the Markbass velcro attachment strap, and I've found it excellent.

YMMV

I had been looking for something like you describe last year (or maybe longer ago) and didn't like the ones I found, so I built my own. I just took a flat piece of wood and cut a U shaped hole in one end which I lined with felt. I also attached a 1/4 round trim om the bottom about 5-6" from the end. This way, when I slide them (I made 2) under the amp head, they angle up. I originally also had a 1/4 round on the top at the very end, but found it really wasn't necessary. I have used both hangers with my basses and an old Hartke 5000 amp head and had no issues even though I was pushing it on the weight with a four and a five string hanging. If I'm using my 6 string at the gig, I prefer not to use these hangers for two reasons - I cut the U too small for the 6 str and would need to rework it a bit and the 6 is heavier and I'm already pushing it. In the pic, I have a 6 string in a floor stand I made, and a 4 str in the amp hanger as well as an empty amp hanger.

There is something like you describe, but the name escapes me right now. It's basically a metal pole, with a hook on one end, and a U shaped holster at the other. It can only be used with 8X10s with a bar across the back. The hook goes underneath the bar, the bar extends across the top of the cabinet, and the holster hangs over in front of the cab.

Do a search, I've seen a few posts on it, but not in a long time.

Found it. Pretty easy site name too

Funny you should post that. Speaker Hardware posted a couple of photos of those from Namm last night on his facebook.

I was actually just about to get one of these. I like how they would be easy to keep in your bag and hang off the side of my cab - for my 2nd guitar.

I do not like the ideas that have been posted, but I am going to spend little time in the shop tomorrow, playing with a few ideas and see what I can do.

The two guitarists in my band just screwed wall hangers straight into thier heads. Lol guess I wouldn't recomend that though.

I took a wall mount string swing and screwed it into the side of my amp head. My bass hangs great from a 1x18/2x10 biamp stack. Mount it to the stage side (facing your drummer) to protect it more from boobs walking by during breaks! Cost about $20, I think.

I didn't check the links, so I don't know if it's already been mentioned, but at bassday ny (from bassplayer mag) a million years ago they gave away these cool velcro thingies that take up no space whatsoever in your gigbag, and are a no brainer to put on your amp without modifying or damaging it in any way. You velcro one side to an amp handle and the other around the bass neck.

Just searched like crazy, and AHHA!!!!! It's the same as this markbass one, which didn't come up in that markbass link. I think they're pretty cool.
