Sometimes Good Things Happen to Good People

There's a great story that's unfolding locally in my hometown. It starts with a local guy needing some money to take care of his wife's medical bills. He decides to sell a few things to help make ends meet. A friend of the family has one of those ebay stores where you bring things in and they will sell them for you. He decides to give it a try and gives them a beat up acoustic guitar he bought 12 years ago (for 50 bucks) to sell for him. He bought it 12 years ago for no better reason than it was supposedly made the same year he was born...1938. He took to a luthier right after he bought it and had a couple of things repaired on it and spend another $350. He hasn't played it much since. The ebay store did a little research and saw similar guitars made in the 40's go for a couple thousand dollars, so he was encouraged.

As it turns out, the guitar is a 1938 Martin D-28 and the current bid is at $29,100! What makes it even better is since the guy doesn't have a computer or read the paper or watch much TV (our newspaper did a story on this whole deal...as did one of the local TV stations), he has no clue how much his auction is going to bring. The people who own the ebay store want to surprise him with the amount when the auction closes. Everyone was trying to keep it hush-hush to really make it a surprise, but I'm sure some big mouth will ruin it and tell him. Regardless, sometimes good things happen to good people. Here's a link to the auction if you want to follow it...it still has two days left. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1
