Song Covers you like

Was just reading a thread about horrible covers of songs by 'pop stars' so I thought I would start a thread about covers people dig.

I'll start with a couple of slightly humorous ones. First is Carnival in Coal doing Baker Street, originally by Gerry Rafferty.

Children of Bodom doing a better job than Britney. Still not a great song but funny.

Being a big Nine Inch Nails and Johnny Cash fan, this is great.

Let's see what pops up.

To me, there's no reason to record a cover unless it's very different from the "original", though most folks confuse popular with original.

I love Casandra Wilson's covers of so many songs- "Love Is Blindness", "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", "Last Train To Clarcksville", etc

Tuck and Patti do great cover of Hendrix on "Castles Made Of Sand/Little Wing". Much more interesting than SRV's masturbatory guitar excess of Hendrix.

"Blinded By The Light" by Manfred Mann. Bruce should never be allowed to sing this song

Another children of bosom one I dug was bed of nails by I believe Alice cooper they did it some justice I think.

Love metallica's versions of turn the page, stone cold crazy and the merciful fate medley they did on garage inc.

matisyahu did a cool version of message in a bottle.

I'm not a korn fan but I dug their take on brick in the wall parts 1-3

Alien ant farms version of smooth criminal is a guilty pleasure I'm sad to say.

Amon Amarth did a funny version of Ariel's by system of a down as the last track of surder rising.

I believe still remains did a cover of war ensemble for a video game sound track that was awesome.

Between the buried and me's take on blackened by Metallica is better than the original haha.

Johnny cash personal Jesus.

There's a ton more but I think I've put a few too many already.

This Flight Tonight - Joni Mitchell
Shapes of Things - The Yardbirds
Alcatraz - Leon Russell
Vigilante Man - Woodie Guthrie
Love Hurts - Everly Bros (written by B Bryant)

Keep em coming Sadasar! And everyone else.

It's good to discover a fresh take on an old song. A cover isn't intended to replace..
