I'm guesssing I have an advantage over you because I'm older & had been playing for 10+ years when I first heard "Rio". Plus, I had previously heard "Girls On Film"...so I knew this guy (John Taylor) was pretty happening.
The songs for me would a lot of the late '60s/early 70s Pop that came out of my parents' Ramblers.
Example: The Osmonds' "One Bad Apple". A typical syrupy rip-off of the Jackson 5...nevertheless, years later (like maybe 5 years ago), I re-visited it because
Bass Player had an article about the guy that played on it (Bob Wren?)...the bass part is part-Jaco/part-Jamerson.
Others would be stuff like Chicago's early output-
"Beginnings", "Free" (like Jamerson meets Rocco Prestia), etc.
...and a ton of those early R&B hits. Some of them were pretty bubblegum but had killin' rhythm sections going on.
