Songs for developing things

Sign in to disble this ad
Well, in my quest to get better, i have found that learning songs is helpful with lots of things. some rythym, some feel, some time, some speed, some dexterity, etc. I didnt realize the full benefit of this until just now though, when i learned wish you were here and the four horsemen. So im looking for songs that develop things, anything. Here are some to get the ball rolling:

Rythym: Wish you were here

Dexterity: Four horsemen, raining blood

Keep em coming!

I suppose only those that have talked about this album will know what I'm talking about-

The opening/intro figure to Miles' "Black Satin" as played by Alphonso Johnson on the somewhat recent Fusion For Miles cd.

This figure is good for dexterity & 'odd' feels-
Dexterity...I play it in one position & use all 4 fingers of the fretting hand.
Odd...I feel it as a bar of 4 + a bar of 3 (could also be felt as 7/8).

Using all 1/8th notes-
lG-Bb-F-Bb-E-Bb-Bb-G-lBb-F-Bb-E-Bb-Bbl etc

The figure begins with the index finger on "G" ("D"-string 5th fret)
Bb is played on the "E"-string, 6th fret
F is palyed on the "A"-string, 8th fret
E is played on the "A"-string, 7th fret

Also noteworthy-
The 2nd "G" in bar 1(see "& of 4")'restarts' the phrase...since it is NOT on "1" of bar 2, you get a little bit of a displaced thing happenin'.
