Songs that instantly calm you down and clear your mind
Alright. Once again I would like to know something from you : Which song(s) make you calm down if you had a bad day or if you just want to clear your mind and relax.
For me it's :
Yes - Roundabout
TesseracT - April (instrumental version)
Static-X - So
"Return the Boy" - Spongetones
'All Blues'- Miles Davis
Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side
This song is so far removed from what I usually listen to, but it calms me every time I listen to it: It's My Life - Talk Talk
Pretty great bassline.
Any Jazz or 40's music after a late loud gig.
Thank goodness for satellite radio.
Breathe (reprise) Pink Floyd - DSOTM
Perfect Day -- Lou Reed
Norwegian Wood -- the Beatles
Hallellujah -- Jeff Buckley
Us and Them -- Pink Floyd
All have a calming effect for me.
Great list, BigDanT!
I would add anything by Nick Drake, most Sigur Ros, and miles. Also big into Tom waits' Mule Variations...that album relaxes me nicely.
Ride The Lightning is one. Why? because I love my metal and I can't actually relate to this song so I just listen to and think about the music and not anything else, therefore relax.
Gone Cold by Clutch is the other. Just so serene and calm but still interesting to listen to, despite the fact that I can relate to it.
Here are some of my go-to albums for de-stressing. Songs you want? Just about any song from any of these albums, I guess. But I prefer to take an hour or so to relax and listen to some calming music if I've had a bad day.
"Bar Kokhba" John Zorn
"Masada Guitars" John Zorn
"Adventures In Afropea 1" Zap Mama
"Music for 18 Musicians" Steve Reich
"VOCAbuLarieS" Bobby McFerrin

either album by Floratone
"Kind of Blue" Miles Davis
"Rite of Strings" Stanley Clarke/Al diMeola/Jean-Luc Ponty
"Wooden Smoke" Mike Keneally
"The Koln Concert" Keith Jarrett
"The Sheperd's Dog" Iron and Wine
The Good The Bad and The Queen (self-titled)
"The Very Best Of Macy Gray"
"The Intercontinentals" Bill Frisell
"Sunday at the Village Vanguard" Bill Evans Trio
I could go on, but I guess I won't.
Dear Valentine- Guster
Pretty much anything by Guster actually
Friend of the Devil
Anything by the Counting Crows except for some Recovering the Satellites tunes
