Songs/Jazz standards that could work with only bass & vocals, please help!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi all.

I've been asked to play at a dinner with only myself on 6 stringed and fretless basses, and a female vocalist.

I was wondering, could people suggest me easy-ish & effective songs and/or jazz standards that would work with this duo setup?

Some songs on the setlist so far include:

I Want You Back
Fever
Hallelujah
Summertime
Autumn Leaves
Fly me to the Moon
Ain't no Sunshine

Im needing around 1 hrs worth of music.

Thanks all

Twisted - the Joni Mitchell version

Humor. Hipness. Really fun bass line with plenty of room to improvise

Boop Shoobee! Flip City!

Check out some of Nora Jones' songs, I think you will be able to find several that would work.

Really like the bass on "Cold, Cold Heart".

Here are some more.

The jazz vanilla book should jog your memory - http://www.ralphpatt.com/Song.html - for the chord progression then check out the toolbar for backing tracks. Google should be able to get you the lyrics.

Have fun.

I've seen someone do Cry Me A River, and it was really really good. The bass has to swap between bass playing, and chordally playing though.
