Soooo I'm going on vacation (Nevada and airplane content)

I'm a west Michigander, but from June 1st to June 16th I'll be in the Reno, Nevada area (visiting some great friends of mine).

Do I bring my gear? At least my L2000, gotta keep them calluses!

I know there's some rule somewhere stating I'm allowed to carry an instrument along with my regular carry-on? I never check baggage, and I'd rather not check my precious G&L (see Dave Carroll's view on this here (but thank *insert deity here* I'm flying Delta. HATE United)).

I'm lazy, someone help me out if you know it?

Regardless, this is my notice (will be linked from my sig) that I'll be out of town and may be out of touch from TB. I'll try when I can to be on.

Love you guys (and gals, wherever you are..)!

Depending on if the flight is full or not they may want you to check your bass at the gate since space is at a minimum. I've done it before and have had no issues although I'm not thrilled doing it.

It's nice though cuz you just wait by the exit door of the plane and they'll bring your bass to you. No baggage wait.

I think in the future, I'll just ship it USPS. I shipped my Washburn XB-100 (for my friend I'm staying with) parcel post and took from Tuesday morning til Monday to go MI to western NV.

Just sayin.

I just got back from a trip going Reno->Chicago->Peoria and back carrying my custom headless bass in a synapse gig bag. For American Airlines, the bass counts as your carryon, so I had the bass and my laptop bag.

It fit fine in the overhead bin on both the Reno->Chicago leg (MD80) and the Chicago->Peoria leg regional jet (Embraer 340). Everyone else had to check their roller bags on the regional jet.

Never had any issues, except once when that had to run it through x-ray twice because it was too long to get the complete picture in one pass.
