Sound Test Cd Recommendations?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys so I need some help here, besides being a bassist I am also a gadget and gaming enthusiast. I have a tech blog and I get in gadgets for review I also I get in alot of gaming headsets to review and while I feel like my ears are pretty good for hearing things, I would like to gradually add bits of science to my, so far fairly subjective, testing procedure.

To put it simply, I am looking for very simple cd or sound file that has frequency sweeps, test tones, and pink noise to sense phase, preferably one catered toward headphones so that there is less chance any blown drivers can arise. I can hear whats there and whats not fairly well, but it woud be great to also make sure all major frequencies are being produced cleanly and when something sounds off I can more easily say, hey okay looks like 50hz is a little off.

Hope that makes sense, looking forward to your repsponses, I'd prefer to keep it as cheap as possibly btw, but i have no problem throwing around 20 - 30 bucks for a test cd.

Check out a program called Visual Analyzer. It will generate all of those test tones from your PC. And it's free.

Two recommendations:

SRD (Studio Reference Disc) from Prosonus
Test CD Volume 2.0 from Audioplex Technology

The first is stunningly comprehensive, the second a bit less so but easier to navigate to the most important test bands.

I made my own, most standard audio programs will allow you to make any test signals you could want. I used Sony Sound Forge, it's a great program and you can even get a free 30 trial if you want to tackle it.
