Back when MTV used to play music, I got hooked on them after hearing the song Outshined. Got to see them for the Superunknown just a little while later. 2 things:

1) Ben Shepard being 8 ft tall and playing bass at his knees is surreal.

2) Rusty Cage remains one of the BEST guitar intros of all time.

My favorite band ever. Got to see them a few times in the 90's. Amazing.

I gotta say, I thought Chris Cornell did his best work with Soundgarden. I missed them the first time around, maybe I'll get another chance.

Awesome! They'd definitely make a top 15 list for me and I always wanted to hear at least one more album from them!

I was only 2 years old when they broke up, but I love Soundgarden! I won't make it to Chicago, but I live just around the corner form Seattle, so there's no way they can NOT play a show near me during this reunion. If they make an album, that sure would be interesting, but I also hope they don't ruin their reputation and put out something terrible, as Chris has said in many interviews..

I really love Ben's bass work too. Him and Matt make an amazing rhythm section. Their ex bassist Hiro Yamamoto was a great fit for them too.

03. Searching With My Good Eye Closed
04. Rusty Cage
05. Beyond The Wheel
06. Flower

09. Hunted Down
10. Nothing To Say
11. Loud Love
12. Blow Up The Outside World
13. Pretty Noose
14. Outshined
15. Slaves And Bulldozers

Encore:

16. Get On The Snake

That is one hell of a setlist!

Gun is my all-time favorite song.

Funny. I saw Soundgarden at Lollapalooza almost 15 years ago, and in their prime they didn't get to headline (Metallica got the honor). Now, they get top billing and they haven't had a new release or subsequent chart success since that time.

Strange how the world works.

That said, I'm a huge fan of their recorded work, but the live shows I've attended were underwhelming.

That is a great setlist for sure.

They were still "underground" back when they were on that Lollapalooza...before "Black Hole Sun" got them all that attention.

I think it's strange that "Black Hole Sun" broke them to the MTV masses...it's one of my least favorite songs of theirs.

Live they were good all three times I saw them though they I enjoyed the shows in the smaller venues better. Saw them on the Louder than Love tour in a small club (anybody here remember L'amours and they blew the place up...saw them again on the badmotorfinger tour at Roseland in NYC and they were killer...saw them later at the Armory on the Upside tour and all I remember is how frikken hot it was in there....

Naw, this was after the release of Down on the Upside in 1996. They'd already sold their millions of copies of Superunknown and had been namedropped by everyone as one of the four horsemen of the Seattle apocalypse. This was their prime.

For me, Superunknown suffered heavily from overexposure. At least four or five tracks that I used to enjoy have been so overplayed by alterna-rock radio that they're unlistenable at this point. That track included.

Really? Did they play Lollapalooza twice? Guess I was thinking about the lolla when PJ also played? Must google....that must have been behind badmotorfinger too....We stopped going after the 2nd or 3rd Lollapalooza and definitely didn't see when Metallica headlined...geez that was so long ago!

And good point about Superunknown...spoonman, fell on black days, bhs, etc....definitely were overplayed that year!

Just turned 39 and my memory ain't what it used to be!

But I do remenber Chris hanging upside down from the pipes at L'amour wearing his duct-tape shorts and throwing stuff....I think it was Voivod, Faith No More, and Soundgarden on that club tour...ah the good old days!!!

I always did think that DOTU was a great record and a nice way to go out....

For me it was a great bill, Lollapalooza '96. Metallica headlined and owned the stage even though they'd cut their hair and just released an alternative record!!!!!!!1111!!!1!! Soundgarden underwhelmed me again compared to the awesomeness that is their recorded work. The Ramones got massively upstaged by Rancid (who I've continued to see any chance I get). And despite my negative preconception, Devo won me over and like Rancid earned a regular attendee at their shows.

I loved that album in '94. Loved it. I still love the stuff that wasn't on heavy daily rotation, but yeah, throw in "My Wave" and you've got a full third of the album that is lost to overplay by radio.

I have still not given the album the full opportunity it deserves because of my negative initial response of it lacking the wonders of its predecessor. I really need to revisit it now that I've had some time to distance myself.

All of this talk about 90's Lollapalooza brings me back to the 1993 shows.. ahh I think that show had the best lineup. Rage Against The Machine started the show with Tool right after.. Babes In Toyland wasnt on the west coast swing of the tour so a spot was open, it was in Los Angeles so Tool got off the second stage and was on the main stage after Rage.. that was intense. Then Arrested Development, Front 242, Fishbone and Dinosaur Jr: then the grand finale Alice In Chains and Primus.

Is The Strokes not headlining?

We just saw AiC recently and were talking about that 1993 Lollapalooza....still can't believe we didn't go though I think we were burned out on that festival after the first couple of years.

All those bands in one place...each one of them were in heavy rotation on our boomboxes and car stereo's at the time!

I remember being so turned off at Metallica's direction and the fact that they were on Lollapalooza that we never even considered buying tickets to that....I wanted my Metallica to be Metallica and I abandoned them..thankfully with age I can appreciate their whole catalog now! What a snob I was back then!!

Superunknown was a killer record...I remember having that riff to "Fresh Tendrils" in my head forever!

Definitely go back and give DOTU a chance...I remember hating "Pretty Noose" which I think was the first single but really got into that album too...

I never compared Superunknown and DOTU but I think I need to give them both a listen again....

I really hope they play the NYC area!
