There's 14.

BTW, I love them both!
Yeah, good choices, but it was more of a rhetorical question than first serve in a game of song tennis

Like I said Soundgarden were great, but that Staley/Cantrell vocal partnership were untouchable. IMO of course.

AIC is a top 3 band for me, so I picked them. I do love me some Soundgarden too tough!

I like both bands, but preferred Alice in Chains. I wasn't into the grunge scene so much. AIC seemed to me more like straight ahead rock & roll band. I felt they stood out during the grunge years.

I couldn't really pick a favorite song because I can easily listen to Facelift & Dirt from first track to last, back to back.

AIC all the way. And not just because of Mike Starr's Spector.

Dirt just floored me when I first heard it. Badmotorfinger was awesome as well, but Dirt was dark in a way that really connected with me.

I also think AIC has better musicians than people give them credit for. Kinney always had great drum parts, and Cantrell crafted very interesting solos.

I would be hard pressed to pick one over the other. My head prefers Soundgarden but my heart likes AiC.

+1 Highly under-rated. Jerry Cantrell does get credit often, but the rest of the band didn't quite receive the appreciation I feel they should have.

I can't choose - I like them both. Louder than Love, and BadMotorFinger are just killer cd's, but so are Dirt, and Jar of Flies.

I vote both.

A tough one indeed as I too growing up through the 90's decade listen to a lot of both bands. Each had their own, but I am going to give the bit of the edge to Soundgarden. I also like Soundgarden's newer stuff a little more too. But man tough choice. A tour with AIC and SG would be epic, however AIC is coming through my area though on their upcoming tour so I am stoked about that.

I was never a big fan of either. I like a few AIC songs (Would?, Man In The Box, Fear The Voices) and have played them in the past. I saw Soundgarden on TV a few weeks ago and was very impressed. They sounded great. I am now rediscovering some of the bands who made it big in the 1990's.

AIC everytime. I most everything both groups have done and I like them both but I'll have to give the nod to AIC

For me choosing between these bands would almost be like choosing between my two kids. They're different but I love both of them. Looking at the full volumes of material from both bands I think I'd begrudgingly pick Soundgarden though if I had to pick a favorite album between the two bands it would be "Dirt." It's a perfect album. So dark and brooding.

It's also not fair to compare "Dirt" to "Superunknown" as "Badmotorfinger" is its contemporary.

"King Animal" is the best rock album since Clutch's "Strange cousins from the west" if you ask me though "Black gives way to blue" is not without its charm. Can't wait for the new AIC.

AIC all the way big fan for sure and such underrated musicians. Mike Starr and Mike Inez are 2 influences of mine. Don't get me wrong sound garden rocks too, but nothing musically has ever hit me like Dirt and that's the whole album. Well and all the albums after that.

AIC for me. IMO they were never a grunge band they were just a Seattle band that came out at the time so people lumped them in with grunge.

This one was a tough vote. Both have great music and amazing vocalists. AIC barely edged out Soundgarden for me, personally. The vocal harmonies are a huge point of why I like them so much.

IMHO, both are amazing bands that helped me out while growing up in the 90's. Both were/are great musicians. SG was a better technical band and had some outstanding music yet IMHO they sounded too commercial granted they had some great sound.

But AIC was nothing but pure emotion. Through their albums I can feel the pain and suffering and it just connected with me on a very personal level. Do they have the chops of SG or the level of production? No.

But I will still put on jars of flies over any SG.

AIC, mostly because of the chemistry between Staley and Cantrell
