sovtek amps?

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone here have any experience with Sovtek guitar amps? I see them alot on ebay, and I was thinking about getting one to fool around with - don't worry, I play bass too. So, any thoughts?

Or, any suggestions on other inexpensive tube guitar heads?

Thanks

Sovteks are fairly decent amps over all, like most russian gear they are robust but lack finesse, not only in design. They have good tone very much along the lines of bassman and early marshall era. There are some respectable studios that have them and serious players used them on and off as well.

Early Traynor are good heads to try for guitar and bass.
original YBA1A cuircuit bassmaster is a killer, underrated amp worth every penny mI think, YBAIII Custom Special, 200W bass mother is a gorgeous amp after a couple of simple mods.

I suddenly want a nice old Slavic Sovtek bass head, did they ever make them? Any idea where I can find one?

I have a couple friends who use Sovtek heads. They're pretty cool, but not for me.

The Ampeg V4 is a really cool cheap guitar head and it works great for bass too. Get the older one that doesnt have a gain and master volume, just one volume for each input. They are really really really really loud and have a killer clean sound but break up nicely when pushed hard and take pedals well.
