spalted wood work

Sign in to disble this ad
This is probably the stupidest thread i ever have started and it will make sound like a total dumb@$$ but anyways....
Now I was thinking of of making a joke kinda bass (like krappy) and i decided to start with the neck. Since i'm putting the least amount of effort into this i decide to take a fallen branch and split it in half for the neck. So i find one that's the perfect size and start working with it. After i cut it and take off the bark i notice that it's spalted and thought it would add a nice touch. Now i notice that it's really damp so i thought i'd just let it dry by itself. Here's the problem i go on the internet and look up spalted woods and read how the fungi in the wood can keep on growing and only stop after it's kiln dried. I notice that my piece is noticeably damp, i don't have a kiln dryer and the fact that fungi can cause serious health risks. So now i open up my front door and throw my already shaped and cut soon to be neck in the snow. Do you guys think it was necessary? Or was their anyway i could safely prevent the fungi at my own home?

It is possible to jerry-rig up a small kiln-drying setup. Do a little research if you want. Probably not worth the effort. Look for a local kiln that'll do it for you?

i'll probably have to look for some other wood that's not spalted.
