Are the Spector Hardshell cases worth the price?

Is the Spector Legend Hardshell case worth the $165 or is there a cheaper option just as well suited for a legend custom? seems a little steep $165 for a bass that is selling for $500 new right now, with that being said I dont want my bass risking getting chipped up or anything.

I think it's a great hardshell case. Most of the Spector basses I've owned, US, Czech and my current Korean NS-2A has one....

That being said, when I gig, rehearse or bring my bass out of my house, it's in a gigbag. I have a Sadowsky Incase that KILLS!!!!!

im so afraid to use a gig bag, I have several sitting in boxes in my house. I have too many drunks at my shows that bump you as you are walking in and out of the door. problems with playing in small local biker bars I guess. also I got an 11 yo so Im thinking about keeping it in a case while at home as she already chipped one of my basses by mistake by knocking a bass stand on to it walking by my gear. want to sell one of your cases for a discount? LOL

The price of that case does seem a little steep.

Hardshell cases are IMO a big waste of money and time unless you are on the road with all your equipment in a truck. Plus as you can see they are very expensive. It has only been up to recently that companies are now offering gig bags instead of cases. You don't know how many times I have bought bass and tried not to buy the case that came with it. But got the song and dance that the bass has to be purchused with the case.

I always use a gig bag. All my bass cases stay in a closet. I have never had a problem with anyone or anything hurting my basses through a gig bag. I am just extra careful. And I play out a lot.

Obviously if you yourself get drunk or are not careful than by all means carry a big heavy bulkie case. It's not like we as bass players don't have enough big bulkie stuff to haul.

Plus as Nino said above their are lots of gig bags that heavy padding in them. And G.C. is now carrying some new verision of a gig bag that's more like a hard case but shaped like a gig bag. They look real nice. But I don't know the name of them. Anyways I hope this helps. Good luck.
