The Airplane was one seriously cool band.

The drummer before Spencer was Alexander "Skip" Spence. He died around 5 years ago. Spence went on to play guitar for Moby Grape.

Bless you Mr. Dryden.

He played with the New Riders and the Dinosaurs too. My band opened for the Dinosaurs once, and I remember him as being way cool. The Airplane was just a monster live band back in the day though, no doubt.
