Spotify...Future of listening to music???

Sign in to disble this ad
So I keep seeing all these ads for a new service called Spotify. Apparently as a member you can listen to any song by any artist instantly on your computer for free, and as a paying member even on the go on your phone. Sounds too good to be true if you ask me. Has anyone heard anything about this or tried it? The concept sounds interesting and it also seems to have a big focus on the sharing of music with other members...

I am a UK user and have been a premium member for 12months now

I swear buy it and for the price of 1 album a month you get access to 'almost' anything you can imagine. Yes there are still a few annoying holes in artists back catalog but hey.

I twin my with my HTC Desire, listen offline feature is really handy..no need for a 3g of Wi-fi connection while out driving or walking. Obviously you'll need a Android or Apple product in order to take advantage. I also have it running on my laptop and my Partners Galaxy S2 is synced as well. As long as one of us is in 'Offline Mode' while listening (she users her in a her Car) it didoes seem to get upset at basically 4 separate devices using the same account.

There's some annoyances but there we are its less than an Albums Price away

and something they didn't talk about much in the UK

You can drag and drop any supported audio file into Spotify and you can sync it and take it with you...Protected files or indeed un-protected files .. P

All in all I sweat by it... (see attachment for a screen grab)

Inbox my ur email address as I have some Invites to dish out

A few of my housemates have it. Lack of Pink Floyd and the annoyance of adverts between songs? Not for me. Besides, I like having the liner notes and liner art to look through, but then again, I'm wierd like that.

I'd rather have my music consolidated on a HD.

Premium members do not get adverts between songs..

Full albums without any annoyance..

All albums are usually backed up by good in depth Biographies (with hyperlinks to any other named artist or album ala Wikipedia) and the related artists section is a blessing..

Yes you can just transfer you mp3 collection to your phone and do it that but when you fancy listening to something new and exciting its fab..

All with knowledge that its legal and artists both large and small are getting paid.

From what I've read recently, to get into the U.S. market, the "free" version is limited to a certain number of hours per month, how often you can play a song and possibly some other limitations.

Yep. 10hrs/month, and each song can only be played five times, ever.

I do cover gigs and having Spotify is a marvellous tool for learning almost any song we are asked for. When learning, I tend to stop the song right before the end anyway, so I've never reached my 5/song limit, and can skip commercials also.

A few of the artists' catalogs are messed up though, two with a similar name might get joined under one artist's discography.
