I'n thinking of getting one of these just to mess around with and try to add a little bit more to my very, very meagre guitar skills.

Anybody got one? Any good?

I heard that they're not exactly excellent, but I've never played one myself.
I do, however, have a Squier Jazz Bass and it's great!
I'd say test out a few and if you like one, buy it! It's not very expensive, so it wouldn't be TOO MUCH of a loss anyhow.

Try it, though. You might like it. It's fun.

They are fantastic, but you have to find the right one where everything came together on it "just right". I own several multi-thousand dollar guitars and somehow the $149 squier affinity strat I picked up about 15 years ago is my #1 and it's only getting better with age.

I've got one.
Their not so great stock.
The neck had terrible sharp fret ends and a real cheap nut, cheap tuners and not so playable.
I replaced the neck with a Mighty Mite, added real Fender tuners.
I bought mine with the idea of modding it like so many of us do to Squier basses.
The pick ups are not so hot either, but have not changed them yet.
I mostly bought it for the very nice Cherry 'Burst color.
It does have a nice grain match for a cheap guitar.
It now plays nice.

For a great little Strat for a reasonable price check out the Squier Deluxe Strats. There are only two finishes to choose from (typical Fender) but they both look and play like USA Strats with two point floating trems, 22 frets, Duncan designed pickups, and the smaller non 70s headstock. The neck had nicely dressed frets and Yngwie Malmstein shred was a breeze on this thing. Excellent guitar for the less than $300. The cool thing is this is a guitar you wouldn't have to worry about outgrowing.

if you can, find one on craigslist...people buy the squire affinity kit with the little amp and everything, then quickly give up on playing guitar. i see them all the time, usually for $50-100
