Squier MIJ E Series Guitar Question

Today I picked up an E series (84-87) MIJ Squier Stratocaster with a hard case off Craig's list for a very good price. It appears to be all original except the bridge pickup was replaced with a rail type pickup. It's Lake Placid blue with a maple fretboard and in overall very good shape for a guitar of over 25 years old. I have heard the Japanese made Fender/Squier instruments of this time period are highly regarded and becoming somewhat collectible. Does anyone know any good resources where I can learn more info about these instruments? I know it's a guitar, not a bass but there are a lot of us who play both so any help would be appreciated!

Is there a Fender forum on their site?

There is a bit of a hierarchy when it comes to Japanese Squier.

AFAIK, the JV series and the SQ series are the most prized. They command a pretty high dollar if in decent condition.

The E series is next, followed by the A series. These seem to be produced from whatever parts were still around and are not as of high quality as the JV's or SQ's, and do not get as much on resale.

Having said that, you may have a nice player, but i think that top dollar wouldn't be much more than $400-500 for it.

Considering I only paid $150 for it with a TKL hard case, $400-$500 sounds real good! I'm going to get on the Fender forum and see if I can get some more specific info on what year it was made and if I can find a replacement pickup for the the one that was swapped out.
