Which SRV slow blues?

Sign in to disble this ad
The band leader wants to add an SRV slow blues tune.

Which of the three would you pick? They're all essentially the same song.

Vote for one, and throw in your own suggestions. I also suggested Riviera Paradise.

From the ones in the list, I'd pick "Texas Flood". But one that I particularly like is "Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up On Love".

If you don't need to sing, his version of Little Wing is absolutely fantastic.

Texas Flood...it was the title track to his debut album!

Off the list, I'd say Lenny.

If from the list it must be, then Texas Flood. Otherwise, absolutely go for Little Wing.

+10 to Tin Pan Alley. I have trouble comprehending how it didn't even make the poll, it is the only song I think of when I hear the words Slow Blues + SRV, cause everything else pales by comparison.

I voted for Texas Flood of those three, but Cold Shot is probably what I'd choose of any.

I voted carrots. My old band used to play "Cold Shot", if you do it right it really works well.

When I saw the thread title I immediately thought Tin Pan Alley. Of your choices, I picked Texas Flood.

Tin Pan Alley is a great choice. I think I saw SRV something like 8 or 9 times I get all misty whenever I hear Riviera Paradise. That's gotta be my favorite SRV tune.

The "Sky is Cryin" is pretty much Albert King who mentored Stevie. Its nice to cover songs by the newer generation when you can also go back and listen to the Masters of the Blues too. Its like covering a Clapton version of Tore Down, you can go right back to Freddy King and listen to the mentor of Clapton, not only playing but his singing style was also copied.
Heres a suggestion for a slow Blues tune that has a traditional stop n go in it too. "Drowin on Dry Land"=Albert King. I covered this tune for 35 years and totally enjoy it on any instrument. The guitar pulls are traditional Albert styling and the bass has one of the most traditional grooves in blues music. Key of G is a great key to sing in and everyone is happy in G for simple 1/4/5s. Give a listen I think you'll agree that it has more to offer than the tunes on your list. Remember if your covering SRV hes covering Albert King hahahaha!! Doc

Try out all 3 at a recorded band rehearsal and see which one you guys did the best job performing.
