St. Louis City Museum Gig Bass player...

Sign in to disble this ad
I was in St. Louis at the City Museum with my family this past weekend.

On one of the upper floors there was a band playing...with a keyboardist, drummer (playing electronic drums that he wore like a guitar), a violin player and a bass player that had what looked like a custom designed bass with an open headstock and a very curvy body with a long upper horn.

Anyone here know who the bass player was? I didn't get a chance to talk with him, but he was very good, as was the music.

I'm just wondering if the bass player is ever on Talkbass here.

One of my least favorite places to play. That sounds like it was some version of the 'Downtown Trio' or something like that. I believe that group is run by two brothers, and they like old 70's fusion sort of stuff. Not my idea of a good time, but to each his own. I know the great Dave Black gigs with them on occasion on guitar.

I can certainly understand not wanting to play there. BAD acoustics and must be a pain to haul gear up there.

Cool place for the kids though. Kept them occupied all day (and me as the "pack mule" too).

I love the vibe of that museum. The load in is actually easy... there is an elevator that takes you right from the lobby to the room. There's also 'Windows off Washington' in the top floor of that building... another beautiful room that sounds terrible!!!!!!

Bach to the Future - definitely. An offshoot of the Downtown Trio, as KJung said.

Rob Silverman (Zen Drum) and Mike Silverman are killer players. I've had the pleasure of recording Mike recently. He's a very talented pianist! Rob is supposed to come by and have a jam with my improv project at some point. He's the host of the project's son's drum teacher and has an open invite to come down and jam but we only do it once a month and his schedule has not permitted yet.

I am looking forward to that jam! The Zen drum is such a cool instrument and he really knows how to handle it!

I found out from tZer who the band was (and KJung was correct too as they are also that Downtown Trio)...

It's Bach to the Future. Very good group of musicians.

And the City Museum is quite the eclectic feast for the eyes and a wild building-sized jungle gym for the kids.
