Stage or Studo, where would you rather be?

I saw this question posted on JustStrings FB page and thought it would be cool to get Bass Players responses. Where would you rather be.....on the stage or in the studio? I love both and although it's a hard choice I pick the stage.

I'll take the stage thank you very much. I really don't like studio work at all!

I like playing live for people. I've done very little studio stuff. It was fine, different, maybe not my thing?

As much as I love playing live, the studio's where I want to be... there's just something magical about recording. There's a lot more room for experimenting and nuance... the stage is fun too, though.

Stage. I haven't done a recording yet that I'm truly happy with the end result.

Plus, there's just a chemistry when you're rockin the house as part of a tight band that just doesn't happen in the studio.

Either stage or studio beats the hell out of having to work a "normal" job.

Voted studio, but it's not a binary for me. I love them both, and try to keep busy doing studio and live.

Stage without a doubt. For me the studio is just a means to an end. The studio is where you make the merch to sell at the show. For me, playing on stage is the actual goal of being a musician.

Studio gigs usually pay more, but they can be stressful. Much rather play live and have fun.

On stage, people think I'm awesome and say lots of flattering things afterward.
In the studio, people are not nearly as easy to impress and are often careful not to say anything flattering.

My ego would much rather be on the stage.

I really like the discipline and experimentation of recording.
It's like being a mad scientist in a la-bor-a-tory (cue manical laughter)

Unless I'm the producer or principle songwriter, studio work is just boring to me.

Stage is a whole 'nother place, & I get to be a whole 'nother person!

Stage for me. Its just more fun. The last few years I have been in primarily original "jambands" Not just aimless noodling (though it can be fun) but structured songs with improv stuff. Anyway, when I have done recording I havent been completely happy with the result. It was also somewhat rushed and brought out the worst in a couple of the band members. It was a lot more stress than I would prefer. Playing live is just great and for the former mentioned band that has since disbanded that was where our experimentation came from and where new songs sometimes came from. Even in a cover band I played with this past weekend it was more fun than recording. Some of that may have to do with the fact that we did a great cover of Elizabeth Reed by the allman brothers and that made my night.

Love the rush of playing live. Studio rarely excited me.

Music is performance art. Stage is a more direct performance with immediate, up close and personal interaction with the end consumer.

I have no problems with studio, it's just not exhilarating fun for me, with the key phrase being for me. On the other hand, those with performance anxiety issues most likely prefer to create their performance art via the virtual, third-party setup that the studio affords.
