| Starting up a new "boutique bass" company

As I was taking my shower this morning I started thinking about what would be involved in starting up a new "boutique bass" manufacturing company, inspired by some of the posts up in the Basses section here in TB. I've checked out some of the web sites they have and they all had to have reached a point where they decided to make a go of it. But what's involved in reaching this decision, and what's required of you? Obviously money is the primary factor, but what else? I'd be curious to hear from those members here on TB that went into the business, how they went about it, obstacles they encountered, and so on.
