Steely Dan Live

Last night I just saw Steely Dan live in Charlotte...WOW

I always hear people say that the live dan experience is usually ruined because Fagen "strains" at singing. I didn't find it to be that at all!
They put on a great show, and thank god they played Kid Charlemagne. Definately one of the best shows I've been to, next to the Les Claypool show in June.

Every musician put on a great show, especially both the beritone and alto/tenor sax players. I really didn't care for the bssists tone though, it seemed a bit aggresive for the dan tunes. Too bad they couldn't have Chuck Rainey on stage! haha.

They were all dan tunes. I loved the fact that they didn't play Reelin' in the years...I'm so sick of that song. HAha, but they played a great set.

I caught them last night in Bristow, VA. Great show, and having Michael McDonald join them for some songs was great (especially "Peg"). Nothing from the latest Fagan release (now I wish I would have caught Fagan's "mini-tour") and nothing from the last two albums though, kind of surprised me. All classic Dan. They played every song from "Aja" except "Black Cow". Some fairly obscure stuff, like "Green Earring" and "Time Out Of Mind" made me happy.

The two girls singing backing vocals sang "Dirty Work". Sounds like a neat idea, but they absolutely massacred it. No respect for the original song at all, their meandering melodyless mess of vocal lines was barely tolerable.

Walter Becker takes 20 minutes to introduce everybody in the band with either a quip or a bio or both. Shuddup and play.
