Steely Dan/Michael McDonald Tour, What A Show!

Sign in to disble this ad
I Saw Steely Dan/Michael McDonald wednesday night in Pittsburgh, PA. What A SHOW!! Michael played with his band for the first hour and a half. they played some of his solo stuff, motown stuff, and doobies stuff. his bassist was a solid groove player. he played a fender jazz (looked like custom shop 4, passive) and a sadowsky 5 jazz through an eden highywayman head and 2 eden 210 cabs.

Steely Dan played the second half of the show. they played a little under 2 hours. they played about two songs from every album. they didn't play anything from "two against nature" or "everything must go". The band was SLAMMING. they always hire the best musicians. Freddie Washington was playing bass. He played a Fender 62 Precision (Original or RI, wasn't sure) all night through a SWR-900 Head and SWR 6x10 cab. He was really solid and groove heavy. Great Player.

Anyone else see this tour? thoughts? comments? gear?

I caught the tour last night at DTE (near Detroit). Fantastic show. It sounds like very much the same show that you saw.

The mix wasn't particularly bass friendly (probably venue as much as anything) but still very good. Freddie had a Smith on stage that I was hoping he'd pick up just to see if it would cut just a bit more.

SD's horn section was killer.

I noticed on some close-ups ont he jumbotron that the bass had a bartolini pickup. I've posted my comments on the concert in another thread.

Search is REALLY unreliable here on talkbass. This didn't come up in a search for the words "Steely Dan". I had to find my posts.
