In store guitar tech complaint/?

Sign in to disble this ad
I don't get guitar techs. I called and order my parts. I asked him to call when he was ready and I'd drop it off. He did and I did. It's a week and when I called he told me he has 3 weeks worth of work ahead of me. Why'd he call me then? If this was my car would I drop it off a month in advance to wait for my turn? Is this common place or am I getting hosed?

Communication is the hallmark of a good business, regardless of what service they provide. If there is ample competition in your area for decent techs, I'd certainly mention it to him. At the very least let him know that you would have appreciated information like that before you agreed to have work done. Sounds like someone who thinks they are the only game in town. It would suck if he's right.

Choose from the following:

1. He doesn't get (and never will) that you don't want to part with your gear for 3 friggin' weeks while he works on other gear.

2. He's afraid you'll take the work somewhere else, and called you sooner.

3. He's not organized enough to call some of the gear in-a day or two before he's ready for it.

Keep in mind, patience on your part is important! After all, his generation is going to inherit the country. And if they raise the bar too high, they'll have trouble keeping up with the expectations (from others) that they create for themselves.
