Strage craigslist story

Sign in to disble this ad
So a guy comes over real nice , does not play bass and is looking at one for his son. I play it for him and everything and he says he will take it but only has 80$ of the 240$ total.

He then says you keep that 80$ and hold it for me i will be back tomorrow with the other 160$ he takes nothing and leaves.

Idk i just found it strange to give a stranger and especilaly me long hair , 20 years old , facial scruff and tore up jeans 80$ and then just leave.

I am not a person to rip someone off he was a cool dude getting his 12 year old son a bass but when he comes back i am going to tell him he probably should not do stuff like that, agreed?

He probably didn't want you to sell the bass to someone else, so he put down his own "deposit."

If he can afford not to worry about $80, it won't matter what you tell him.

Perhaps he still has some faith in his fellow man. Or perhaps he just has faith that he knows where you live.

It's good to hear that someone still has a bit of faith in humanity.

It's pretty trusting, and probably something I would have done at some point.

I now have sheets of paper typed up that have a spot for a total amount, a non-refundable deposit amount, and an agreed to length of time. Fill out 3 slots, both parties sign, it's quick and gives you legal authority to sell it if the buyer doesn't come back in time.

Cool story. I have had some strange experiences buying things on CL. Sometimes people can be so trusting it is scary. One time I went to buy a 210 cab for my son. I pull up to the house and two guys in there 20's are sitting on the step drinking beer. I jam my pistol in my pants (just in case) and go up and talk to them. They invite me in to see the cab and take me to there basement. I get to the bottom of the stairs and my jaw dropped! They had the nicest studio practice space I have ever seen. They over 10 grand worth of guitars and basses hanging on the wall, NICE stuff and the best amps and cabs money can buy, recording equipment everything!! No deadbolts on the doors nothing! They just let some biker looking dude walk in and see there stuff. After we loaded the cab in my truck, I put my piece in the glove box and and give the boys a lecture about letting just anyone in there house let alone in there studio

ive been in some pretty sketchy situations making moves on craigslist deals...i have found very trusting/trustworthy people though. anytime you add the internet plus the element of goods that are worth something youre bound to expect people from both ends of the spectrum to be involved. the good thing is to be prepared for the worst (ie witnesses, protection ect) but also do right by others as you would want them to do for you.

i can honestly say the only time i ever thought i was on the verge of being forced to pull a weapon in my life was selling a vehicle on the list and the dude acted EXTREMELY strange with very serial killer motive and actions underlying the entire transaction.

Be careful out there guys

Just today my wife, searching for a fairly odd set of drums, finds both an ebay post and a craiglist add (from out of town) for the exact same set. Ebay $1000, Craigslist $500. Ebay pictures full aspect ratio, Craigslist obviously cropped. Strangest thing it was a set of orange acrylic drums with a tiny kick drum and two floors. Not what I would scam on, right? So, bad news to good, the ebay seller was legit, was happy to have the goods on the scammer, and cut my wife a deal.

Watch your back on Craigslist, kids.

It is nice to know there are trusting people out there. People that can deal and trust in each others words. Yes a deposit is good to hold an item. I can only say for your own protection in the future that you write up a receipt on paper with the amount you are selling the item for and the amount of deposit with the amount of the balance due when the item is picked up. Also that the item will only be held for so long. This is to protect you if they change their mind and want their money back. This might not be a big deal, but if someone else shows up after the first person with the total in cash you just lost a sale. You let them know that you will be keeping a part of the deposit in that case since you have to go through the process of trying to sell your item again. This is a fair practice and not to much to ask if they change their mind. I say this only because you say your 20 years old. Don’t learn this the hard way. Stay honest and deal fair.

keep in mind dude..not saying that this is the case but it coulda just cost this guy a mere $80 to case your house for stuff for much more brutal people to steal.

when people come to the house everything is set up in the entry basically, if people come over put the nice silver away and dont give em th 50 cent tour. keep it basic

Being cautious is not being a "gun happy paranoid android". I myself am a licensed concealed weapons carrier and I always carry, especially if I going to a complete strangers house where I have no idea what's going to happen. I will admit that thankfully nothing has happened so far but you never know. I would rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it.

Sorry for the hijack for the rant. I just hate it when people hear gun and think wacko. Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.
