Hey guys, I need some straplocks so I can put a strap on my bass. The ones I had on were trash, so I need to find some new ones. IS there anywhere online I can get them cheap? Im looking to only spend a few bucks. Thanks |

I've seen the ones on ebay that are like $2.00 and a guy makes them in his basement or wherever. Do yourself a favor and get something good. You won't pay more than $20 at Musicians Friend http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...ir-?sku=360389

The came with a used Fender J years ago so I never thought of them before then. When I got them for another bass I got them again, same kind. When I bought my G&L a couple weeks ago I bought another set. When I swap basses I just move my strap and it's a second to push the button.

For the record, I'm having Carvin install a set on my bass because they'd give them to me for $7.50, which is an absolute steal. I'm just wondering if maybe I ought to swap them out for Schallers like I have on my Les Paul.

I have them on my bass and I find them a drag to pull off and push on. My fiddler has the dunlops on his guitar and they seem a lot easier to manipulate, though he doesn't play guitar on-stage, so he hasn't really tested them out for accidental releasing or anyadat...

I have used them for years, very dependable, very sturdy, and very much worth the 17 dollars.
Plus, they are interchangeable, so if you misplace a strap, and have the same system on multiple basses; no problem, just clip 'em in and out. |

I have the Dunlops on all my basses, including my HEAVY Warwick Buzzard. No problems whatsoever, they rock IMHO and I really like them better than the Schallers which I removed from my P bass some years back and replaced with Dunlop.

I've also got them on a couple of guitars. |

You're going to spend around $20 | I had a pair of 'Dunlop Straploks' and they released on their own as if to say that they resented my guitar and the way I play or something. Dropped the thing right on the input jack and I had to fabricate an entirely new plate to hold the jack to my bass. Quote:

Joe | I then went out and got these and they have yet to fail me. The only problem is, when they slide on and off, you can only do it in one direction and it makes you look stupid when you try to take them off, then try again, then you actually have to lift the bass and look at the joint to line up the lock to get it off.
But they work great and pivot around the parts without scratching (great for finishes other than chrome) and without catching (the strap spins smoothly at the joints). Some locks I've seen actually dig into themselves and create HUGE gouges causing the pivoting action to feel like the lock is full of sand. |

The way they're designed, even if some clown successfully pulls the release level (a hard thing to begin with) while you have the bass hanging around your neck/shoulder, the "U" shaped bracket acts as an extra safety net.
But going back to your question, why worry about straplocks? If you're aim is to sell the bass, put back the stock strap pins. Let the owner worry about what kind of locks he/she wants on the bass. That's the new owner's problem not yours. |

| | | | I like Schallers.... I have used the Schallers for many years and have never had one fail on me, I also have no problem whatsoever taking the strap on and off. On the other hand I had a dunlop set on one bass and it did indeed fail me, little tiny ball bearings fell out.
Just my 2 cents.

I currently am using a set of Schallers on my Spector, and they seem to work quite well too. I have a set of Dunlops for it, but just haven't put em on yet. I normally have changed out my Schaller equipped basses for Dunlops right away, but I guess as long as the Schallers keep working like they should, they'll probably just stay on the Spector.

For what it's worth I have Schallers on 10 of my basses without ever having a problem.
A small perk is that once the part is screwed into the instrument you can actually use it as a strap button and hang your strap on it and use as is. Of course that's not why we buy locks in the first place, but when I am determining the length to set a new strap I've found it useful before attaching the strap part of the lock on.
As I said.......................for what it's worth. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
