Stress

So I had been a drummer...for years - since I was a kid. Played in high school and then moved to LA in the late 80's and did *that* scene. Then Nirvana came and destroyed that nice little thing we had going there and I decided to change tracks and got a career.

Fast forward a *few* years and I find myself playing bass and auditioning for a mates band in a few weeks after an intense 3 month *training* period while they were overseas touring.

Finding it a bit stressful and not sure what to expect auditioning on a stringed instrument for the first time.

I know the tunes, and my timing is pretty good considering the time off - but I hit or mis-fret the occasional note. Is that sort of thing normal? I imagine its a case of *hiding* those sort of oops that make the difference.

Anyhow - I just wanted to vent. Thanks.

No worries amigo. Just remember, you can only play as well as you can play, no shame in that. And most importantly (I'm sure there is some science behind this somewhere) everyone else thinks it sounds better if you're smiling.

Thanks for the wisdom...the band is rather straight ahead alternative rock.

After dealing with some constant wrist pain (been practicing sometimes 6 hours in one go with minimal breaks) I finally had a bit of a break through today and felt for the first time what it means to play really loose.

It's been nice having those days when things start to click.

This site has been great - there's some fantastic exercises I've learned to help improve finger strenthening.

if it's just a rock band, they're not gonna need a jaco, they just want somebody who can learn fast and have good rhythm.
