I'm not huge on cover albums but Stryper is coming out with one called The Covering and they've put samples online, just wanted to post it on here and share it with yall. From what I've heard it sounds really good so far.

Why is Stryper covering Black Sabbath? Seems kinda odd... But since this is a bass forum, I'll also say that the bass playing on The Trooper is no where NEAR as good as Steve Harris. (This is just my opinion, and I should add I've never been a fan of Stryper)

Yea, Michael is one of those singers that still has his voice. They are covering songs that influenced them when they were first starting out, Oz Fox (the guitar player) was a huge fan of Sabbath so that's why they are covering Heaven and Hell.

Micheal took over for Brad Delp in Boston after Brad's death, and did an excellent job.
SR89 is right, he can sing as well as he ever did.

Personally I am torn on this. They sound like very good covers of the songs. I understand what they are doing but they are just straight up versions of the originals. In the end they can't possibly top the originals. Maybe they should have thrown the odd twist to the songs.

That's the trouble with "name" bands doing covers. 1/2 the people want to hear a straight up cover version and the other 1/2 want to hear something different.

As was mentioned before, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't when it comes to covering other's hits. I definitely liked what I heard on the linked site. Nice tight covers. (And yes I was a Stryper fan back in the day.)

At least they didn't give the songs the Pat Boone treatment!
