Stupid question time

A little ridiculous I know but I got a question. When you're playing a gig, rehearsing, or just playing your bass in general how do you A) keep your strap from pulling down the collar of your shirt thereby exposing the upper part of your shoulder and or chest. Or alternately B) keep the bottom of your shirt from riding up and hanging out over the top of the bass. I'm totally perplexed and haven't ever noticed this happening to anyone else. It seems like five minutes into playing I start having wardrobe malfunctions of the Janet Jackson variety and have to wait for the end of each song to totally readjust my shirt. What's the deal?

Interesting, I myself haven't dealt with the problem. What type of shirts do you wear? What kind of material is your strap made from?

Sounds like you have a headstock heavy bass and a wide strap with a lot of grip. The headstock slowly drops while the strap pulls your shirt up, or down.

I put Hipshot Ultralights and a Gotoh Bridge on my jag-copy bass to try to mitigate the problem. Also relocated the rear strap button. Much better, not still can feel it wanting to pull. Helps to wear the bass higher.

Wear a T-shirt and tuck in the tail. Adjust when needed.

Problem solved.

In fact I do play a Jazz with a wide leather strap that's got a kind of suede feel to the underside. Think I'll wear it a little higher and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

Thanks

The kind of strap that I use might be helpful for your wardrobe malfunction issues. It has a padded section that is free to slide along the length of the strap. The padded area stays in place on my shoulder so I can move the bass around without it pulling on my shirt.
