I'm not sure if this is the right forum so move me if needed .
I did a search on here for sturdy cables, after 32 pages i gave up...
Up until last week, I had a favorite cable...... a planet waves one. Until, that is, I got to practice and couldn't figure out why my tuner wasn't reacticing.....changed batteries in it, and my bass (twice), checked my amp, etc..15 minutes of getting annoyed until I realized I hadn't checked the cable, which was working fine at a gig two days before. Two month old cable went bad . Was complaining to the guitarist about it and he said if someone steps on it, espically wearing heels, it'll go bad. Then I remember that the singer was wearing heeled boots, and my cable was behind her at the gig for a while (small area)...sigh. I've got several other cables but I feel like they are too thin....
So, is there such thing as , say, a nice thick 20 foot (or 25) cable that can handle being occasionally stepped on but that is flexible enough not to coil up when you look at it funny and that has one 90 degree angle? At this point I don't even care about color or coverings.... The ability to resolder ends would be good also, the planet waves one you can't just unscrew the ends and resolder them... My tweed covered cable is good but stays in loops too much. Any suggestions? Easily obtainable in the states would be good too . |

It's an instrument cable...my guitarist made a big deal about getting a mogami cable for his guitar...whatever, use one with gold ends and call it good so long as it works fine.
He bought me a nice Monster Bass cable. I decided I wanted it over the Monster Rock "Bass" cable that I used to have but got stolen. Monster Bass 21' cable is $50. In my opinion, though it is a nice thick cable with good sound, the ends suck cause they don't "lock" into the bass/amp as well as the ends on the Monster Rock Bass cable. Now I'm in the market for a cable that meets the following requirements: Angled on one side; locks in to the bass well; gold ends.

Then I remembered that these cables are switched. Once I pushed the button on the plug everything was OK again. I did, however, feel like an idiot!!!!

Too thin, like not sturdy. I've already resoldered the ends on two of the thinner cables-from the factory there was pretty much no solder on the connections. My cables do get dragged around (yes I do the around the strap thing, first thing my teacher taught me!) and tossed into crates and unfortuantly stepped on by me and others....
I had bought the planet waves one because I have a peavey with some connection issues and the bannana springs end worked better, although have had the "common" issue of it being *too* good in a couple of jacks. LOL I did try pushing the end buttons already . Several times ......
I had looked at the monster bass cables but GC didn't have any with an angled end. A couple of my input jacks are , umm, sloppy? so if the ends don't lock in well that will be a problem-thanks for the heads up! I have several different setup scenarios depending on where we are playing and need an all around cable that fit everything . I'm not asking much, no? |

I have 12' Monster cable, about 7 years old. The jack ends are wider than the standard ends on other cables. Dont know if its true but read here many times the Monster cables damage output jacks on some basses. Had to replace the output jack on my G&L L2500 after using Monster cable on it. Wont use it anymore. |

I use Canare GS-6 and nuetrik connectors. If you're not good with an iron I know Butch has a great reputation for great work.
One thing about the planet waves cables is some are terminated differently on the amp and guitar side. You may want to check the direction of your cable. I think one end has a guitar and one has an amp? I had one for about 4 years and it still works but has a lot of noise from walked on damage.

It's like Hansel & Gretel and their trail of breadcrumbs: You lay out a length of cable for her to follow, eventually they all come to papa. Helps if you whisper "back dat azz up" a few times between numbers. |

That is all I have, they have never let me down, and I would use the warranty if they would ever crap out. I was dumb and pulled the compression spring off of one end on one that I had because I thought it was causing problems with my bass. It still works fine, but I only use it at home now. Bought a 30' long one for shows but since I'm not in a band anymore I don't use it as much cause it's so long. The circuit breaker cables are nice as well.

I'm a girl. A straight one. I'd rather the singer not back up cause then she's backing up into ME! Thanks, but a girls butt against my hands isn't gonna help me play better (sorry guys). Funny though
*sigh*. The real reason cable was behind singer is because the porch we were on sucked for sound until you got off the porch... so I got off the porch and was playing in the yard. Only way off porch was behind singer .
So, bayou cables are sturdy enough to deal with getting walked over? | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
