Styx has 2 bassists now?

We just finished watching Improv Ice and Styx was the featured performer. For several tunes they had 2 bassists. I couldn't hear 2 distinct bass parts, but it all sounded good . . .

well I dont know exactly which 2 bassists you were watching, but I do know that their original bassist Chuck Panozzo plays with them when he can, and their usual bassist is Ricky Phillips.

Taken from their website:
Tommy Shaw, James “JY” Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips (along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo)

It was probably an occasional surprise performance then!

Well, Metallica was last seen playing with 3 bassists, including Jason Newstead and Geezer Butler, and I still couldn't hear the bass.
