Subbed for a bassist, and got a guitar gig! Huh?

This is cool, but just sorta weird. A while back I subbed on bass backing a southern rock / country singer. Gig went great, I had a blast, and we all clicked pretty well. I added some background vocals, which the singer really dug. They have a stellar regular bassist, though, so I knew gigs with them would just be on a sub basis, if he wasn't available.

So then I got a call the other day, and they want me to play acoustic guitar with them and sing background vocals. It just made me laugh. I haven't had a guitar gig in years ... I play, but mostly just for my songwriting. I think I got the call because of my vocals, and the fact that I got along well with folks (the hang is crucial, ya know?).

Anyway, this could be fun. Gotta dust off the acoustic and woodshed a little.

Wish I was playing bass, though! Ah well.

You learn a lot form playing guitar in a band! You won't become egotistical because you're the accoustic and not main so Win/Win.

You can be their back-up bassist too!

I love sitting in on my 12-string especially if it's all improvised. Have fun!

I wouldn't complain.

Good vocals improve your worth.
