Subbing - what do I need to know?

I'm presently playing with a band that plays all originals, and we won't be ready to play out for another few months. In the meantime I'm considering subbing myself out to hopefully make a couple of bucks on the side. Would anybody here on TB give me a few nuggets of wisdom to guide me in my deliberations?

Know what the band you'll be playing with wants from you. Asking questions is necessary.
