Sudden hand pain

Sign in to disble this ad
For the first time, I had some hand pain playing both Monday night at rehearsal and on our gig Friday night. Once was hitting a chord and another time I just got a sharp pain and some numbness for a sec at the show. First off, I don't practice every day so I don't think it is one of those deals from too much repetition. My thoughts are:

1. I play rather low. I've always found playing rather high uncomfortable for my right arm.
2. I've been playing P's lately and maybe a smaller neck would help.

Thoughts and experiences. I don't want chronic issues here.

I should note it was just once at practice and once during the gig, not an all night thing.

Check your wrists. They need to be STRAIGHT.

I found chords in particular where when all of my good technique went out of the window and my left wrist was at 90 degrees - guarenteed pain (maybe not today, maybe not tommorrow, but someday, and for the rest of your life...). It is possible to play chords with a straight wrist - just a bit more tricky.

Yeah, the time at the gig I wasn't playing chords so I'm not sure what it was. My wrist is definitely not straight on those chords, I'll make sure it is.
