Suggest new music, please.

Since a few years ago, and discovering Protest The Hero and The Fall of Troy, I have found music I like, but nothing that I love. I dig experimental rock music, and progressive stuff. Something that is really unique and refreshing. I can appreciate a good song writer as much as a good musician. So whether it be acoustic, rock, metal, folk, whatever. Make some suggestions, please.

If you're looking for stuff that is in the vein of the two you mentioned, check out The Dear Hunter.

Besides that, there's a lot of good music out there, just have to keep and open mind, Here are some of my faves:

Pretty much anything by Rob Crow - especially look at Pinback.
Mew, Coheed and Cambria, The Dismemberment Plan, Veto (look 'em up on YouTube, they're a Danish band so it's harder to find albums in the states), Thrice, Man Man (love these guys, not the most accessible of music however), Manchester Orchestra, Silversun Pickups, Them Crooked Vultures, Cold War Kids, Band of Horses (the two albums before the latest especially, are great), Iron and Wine, Arctic Monkeys, The Decemberists.... need I go on?

Now do your homework, son. There's gotta be something in there for you.....

Coheed is a little cheesy at times and lacks some of the raw energy that I enjoy. I know a few of the other bands, and don't know a few. If there are any particular songs that may get me hooked, please post a youtube link if you can!

How about going back in time? Listen to The Moody Blues, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, King Crimson and the like. See how prog got its start!

The stuff I recommended was not really prog, so I guess if that's where you're looking, listen to Stratovani and not me.

If you are looking elsewhere however, check these out:

Veto
VETO - You Say Yes, I Say Yes - YouTube

Pinback

Manooghi Hi. A super hot Indian chick, singing in English and Hindu (I think,?) over a nice rock groove. Super catchy, feel-good music. Check out 'Kismet' on YouTube

And Coheed, cheesy? You're killing me!
Dude from Fall of Troy sounds almost exactly like Claudio!

As far as "raw energy" do you mean heavy? Because the two bands you listed are quite polished in their recordings - not really what I think of when I hear the term "raw".

Just curious...

And bustin' chops a little...

Unless you seen The Fall of Troy live, you wouldn't understand. Their final product was their show, not the album. Protest the hero oozes energy. They love what they do, and you can see that talking to them and telling them. Claudio does harmonies that sound like Kids Bop. I just don't see any resemblance, whether it be the style, the playing, the vocals, or the feel.

Try listening on Pandora. You never know what you'll hear, and you may be pleasantly surprised and delighted.

The Fall of Troy jams. They are heavy. They improv. Amazing trio.
The Fall of Troy - Sledgehammer - YouTube

My favorite Coheed song... the "hey hey hey" part to me just does not fit. They arent even CLOSE to the same style.

HAHA! Harmonies that sound like kids bop hey? Fair enough (even though I'm not quite sure I understand the sentiment).

I don't want to get into a pissing contest about whose "liked" band is better, or who puts on a more "raw" live show, but I'm not the only one who hears the comparison:

Taken from the album write up in iTunes for In the Unlikely Event:
"At other times, vocalist Thomas Erak sounds shockingly like Coheed and Cambria's Claudio Sanchez; indeed, if "Single" had a much longer and dumber title and an epic, arena-rock guitar solo, it could be a Coheed and Cambria track".

As far as not understanding (without having to see a band's live show), believe me, I get it. I'm a little older than you and I'm very familiar with post punk, screamo, and math-core bands.

If that's what you are looking for then listen to some of the old bands I used to listen to: Poison the Well, Unearth, Darkest Hour, Glassjaw, The Bled, Hopesfall, or very early Atreyu.

For heavier stuff, albeit not as heavy as the bands you listed, check out Moving Mountains and O'Brother. For some lighter but still cool stuff check out My Brightest Diamond and Feist.

Most people have heard Feist's singles, but her other material is definitely worth checking out. I'd start with her first album and then work forwards, but her latest is really great as well.
