Bottom Center? By the Bridge or by the lower horn? Because the bridge is for grounding (you're the ground) and the othe rone...who knows. S1 switch maybe? <scratches head>

so it does look like a true fender p-bass body not a knock off?

there seems to be another similar hole in the neck pocket.. maybe its for weights to balance it or help cure dead spots???

its probably just to hold the wood while its being cut.

looks like fender to me, judging by where the sticker is in p/u route

I had a tobacco burst Sting bass. To me, yours is sunburst, but I agree it's not a very bright burst. IMO tobacco burst can very often be distinguished by its nearly 2-tone burst pattern. A traditional burst is more like yours...very distinctive 3 tone burst patterm.

Yeah, but look at the lower horn, that's awful. 3-tone sunburst on top and tobacco burst on the bottom. No wonder he's confused. It looks like the red layer was put on LAST. Ggesehh.

It looks like a sunburst because of the red (3rd colour) layer on top, but sheesh, looks like a sloppy job! see bottom of bass (only 2 colours)!

My 98 MIA Jazz deluxe also has that hole in the body... stopped me from taking off my pick guard.. which sucks.
I think it is probably used during the manufacturing process for some stupid reason.... but it still sucks!

yeah my 03 mia jazz has that hole too. Maybe it's a reference for the CNC machine or where they clamp it for painting? cause mine isn't painted in the hole.

It's not sloppy, it's how Fender has done sunburst basses forever. Look at the Jaco bass some time.

The body in the top picture looks exactly like the body in the bottom picture.

yeah.. good point.. it does look wierd because there is no pickguard to cover the "no red" burt area on the bottom..

I found out (also as posted above) they are for alignment during routing and holding during painting.

Hmmmm ... well, let's take a look at a couple of mine.

Can't tell on the RB-5, but the Jazz Deluxe Plus has the red all the way around.
