Surprise gear for free...what's better?

So my dad just walked in the door with a '60s model Gibson Skylark and a guitar with "Hy-Lo" on the headstock that looks to be from the same era. It has flatwounds(***?), and a single pickup, and what appears to be an adjustable truss-rod...looks like a Teisco product. (strap button on the inside of the horn, tele-ish headstock)

Haven't plugged either in yet, as I want to make sure the amp isn't going to burn up. (my great aunt had them sitting around in a garage for quite some time...at least since before I was born.

I'll have pics up in a few.

I'll have them up as soon as I find my cable...I can''t get Linux to work with Bluetooth

For some reason, the guitar seems to be tuned in A standard....I though it might just be time doing the detuning, but the string tension feels right....and now that I look at it the strings are huge. What have I got here?

edit: I've plugged it in, and this guitar has perhaps the most distinct tone I have ever heard. I'm using a friend's Boss ME-50, which is currently set up for a very heavy sound, and this makes it sound like Three Dog Night on steroids. Not bad..just different. The cleans...I don't know how to describe. It sounds very reminiscent of a double bass. Also, the pickup could be used for a vocal mic...XD

Amp doesn't work...all I get is buzzing.

It's very nice buzzing though...warm, not harsh at all.

Pics!

edit: Sorry for the bad pics....The 20+ years of dust don't help either. I'm busy cleaning them up right now.

Wow- flashbacks to the Sears Big Book, circa 1976! That is one cool retro-axe! Might be a baritone, looks long for a guit-fiddle...

Yeah, my guess is Baritone too, long looking neck, tuned to A, with good tension, flatwounds.

Actually, it's a short-scale

I think it just has some really big strings on it..

If I ever wanted to pickup a guitar I guess I'd pickup that one!
What is it you know, yet?
I'll snoop around EVIL-Bay for it.
